Die Musik der Wiener Band ‚ischia‘ schafft etwas, was nur wenigen gelingt: Sie kann
sowohl Nieselregen-Spaziergänge an ergrauten Nachmittagen als auch unbeschwerte
Abende am Ende eines heißen Sommertags begleiten. Mal wird das Publikum dabei von
dunklen Harmonien an geheimnisvolle Orte geführt, mal spannt sich eine wärmende
Decke aus Soundwolken über die Verse und Refrains. Der rote Faden aus eingängigen
Hooks und kompakten Songstrukturen lassen eine Nähe zum Pop vermuten, doch
vorhersehbar ist das Songwriting nie. Ganz im Gegenteil überrascht die Kombination
aus rohen Gitarren-Sounds und komplexen Melodien gemeinsam mit den Texten, die
sich gerne zwischen den Zeilen am Patriarchat oder an der Leistungsgesellschaft
abarbeiten. Einflüsse von Shoegaze und Dreampop münden in einen bestimmten Indie-
Rock, der nicht selten zum Tanzen einlädt.
Nature Swim is a Vienna-based Indie band, who made their much-anticipated
debut in 2021, with the dreamy single “Slow Corners.” The group is led by
the complementary voices and honest songwriting styles of Maggie and Gabriel,
who combine elements of dream pop, bossa nova and jazz to weave a hypnotic
soundscape.
Listening to Nature Swim is an experience akin to floating, weightless down
a lazy river made of maple syrup. Just when you think you’re about to sink
under the waves, Nature Swim provides the water wings, waking you up with a
seductive swoop of the omnichord or catchy drum loop. Since their early days
as local street performers the duo expanded their horizons to incorporate
Luca Celine (bass and backing vocals) and Michael Naphegyi (drums).
The group has since played various venues throughout Europe even shared the
stage with Indie-folk demigod, José González. Nature Swim is now regularly
touring in Austria and Germany and recently released a new single “For the
First Time,” which portrays a feeling of recreation and the joy of truly
experiencing oneself again.
