PROPER. (NYC, Big Scary Monsters/Father & Daughter Rec.)
Following 2019’s critically-acclaimed sophomore album, I Spent the Winter Writing Songs About Getting Better, Proper. is making their return with The Great American Novel.“The Great American Novel is a concept album about how Black genius, specifically my own, goes ignored, is relentlessly contested, or just gets completely snuffed out before it can flourish,” says vocalist Erik Garlington (he/him). “This record is a concept album that’s meant to read like a book; every song is a chapter following the protagonist through their 20s. Imagine a queer, Black Holden Caufield-type coming up in the 2010s.” – What a pleasure to finally welcome them to Vienna!
“The Brooklyn band’s explosively verbal, shapeshifting and snarky emo-pop explores how intersectional identities move within predominantly white spaces” – Pitchfork
“Proper. vocalist Erik Garlington has a rare gift for translating the emotional impact of systemic forces into massive punk rock anthems.” – AFROPUNK
CURB (Wean, DIY or die)
Be sad, but don’t sound like it! The Viennese trio Curb has taken this to heartand have been making music with since early 2018. From time to time, however, a melancholic-sounding song creeps in.
Curb consists of drummer Gabschi, bassist Eunice and Lukas on guitar. All 3 also grab the microphone live.
The band’s sound generally oscillates between grungy grunge and melodic pop punk passages.
After their own debut EP “Wasted X Faded”, which was released in September 2020, and their single “Spit U Out”, they miss the stage and are looking forward to being able to share music with the world again soon.
